A43 Concerns and the New Government

On Wednesday the 21st August 2024, Cllr Ian Martin (Chair to Bulwick Parish Council) conducted a meeting with Cllr Lee Barron and Ann Wallington (Cllr’s Lee Barron caseworker) to discuss the issues around the A43.

Cllr Ian Martin informed the new Labour government of the ongoing issues with the A43 and his drive to improve safety.

 Cllr Ian Martins concerns are:

  • The number of accidents and recent fatalities on the road

  • Speeding

  • Increased usage of vehicles (especially the volume of arctic lorries)

  • Potholes

  • Dangers of cross the road - school age children requiring a school bus or mothers with young children in the ‘Prior Halls’ area.

Through discussion with Cllr Barron he agreed with our concerns.  Cllr Barron has also received the same concerns from other local parishes.   We agreed that planning should consider increased traffic flow to the area and increased facilities should be accounted for, before permission is given to building new homes, rather than them being an issue after the homes have been built.

BPC were informed that Weldon Parish Council are involved with a pedestrian crossing (bridge) in the ‘Prior Halls’ area to help with road safety and access for the new academy.

Cllr Lee Barron has arranged for a meeting to be held on Wednesday 2nd October 2024 at the hall in Dene (18.30hrs for 19.00hrs start) which will include local parishes, police, highways, local government and any other relevant authorities.

Let’s hope that Cllr Barron delivers on his moto of ‘Never over promise - but over deliver’ shines on this occasion and safer A43 is on the way.

Looking forwarding to seeing you all on the 2nd October 2024 for your support with the safety of the A43.

Ian Martin
